Do I have to a be a streamer, work in the streaming industry, or be an Epic consultant to work with you?
Nope! While that’s my focus I do work with others. You’re most likely to benefit from my help if you’re under 40 and need help figuring out what to do with your money. If you’re big on DIY or focused more on retirement or Social Security then you might not get as much from me.
Do I need a ton of money to work with you?
Nope! I’ve intentionally designed my business to work with people like me. It’s a monthly fee so it matches how you pay your other bills. In fact, I work with people who have decent jobs but have a negative net worth because of their student loans. It’s more about the attitude than the bank account.
How long do you expect planning to take?
I’ll use my favorite phrase in financial planning- it depends. If you’re signing on to get help with your student loans that’s usually a two week process. If you’re hiring me for a project like a 401(k) analysis or an insurance review that could take anywhere from a week to a month. If you’re hiring me for ongoing planning then my goal is to work with you for as long as I’m valuable!
What does a financial planner do for me?
A ton! My job is to help you make good money decisions. That could involve talking about your career path, budgeting, managing household bills, negotiating salary, choosing the right benefits from your employer, starting a business, making sure you have the right insurance coverage, deciding on an investment plan, making sure you have your estate planning basics in place, and more!
Most importantly, my job is to make sure that you are more at peace and comfortable with your money. Money’s one of those things that interacts with a lot of our day to day decisions but is fairly taboo to discuss, even with friends and family. That means most of us didn’t get the best money education from our parents which leaves us uncertain. I can help with that. I can help you feel more confident about making decisions that have your money support your life, and not your life dedicated to money.
Why aren’t you wearing a suit?
I’m not wearing a suit because I don’t like suits and I believe you’re smart enough to know that what I’m wearing doesn’t define my expertise. Epic’s dress code was “wear clothes when clients are around” and for most streamers you wouldn’t know whether or not they’re wearing pants.
Plus, that way I can keep my prices reasonable since you’re not having to pay for me to get suits!
Why don’t you have a fancy office?
I work with younger clients who don’t want to (or can’t) take time out of their day to drive to meet me. Plus, I work with clients all over the country. It’s not like you guys are all concentrated in one, convenient place after all. It seems impractical to have a specific office that I work out of.
Same as with the suit- if I don’t have to pay for an office you don’t have to pay for my office. That’s a nice win-win.
What cool tech tools do I get access to?
There are a couple, and I really like them! The first is RightCapital, our planning software. If you want to watch a way too cheery video, here’s some info on them. With RightCapital we can track your current finances, plan for the future, and securely store your data all in one spot. This means that you can check in on how things are going whenever you want! Trust me, that will make life so much easier when you’re trying to do things like buy a home or get income verified for a loan or rental agreement.
The second is Data Points. Data Points is a behavioral finance quiz software that lets us look into your philosophies around money. While giving you info on your personal finances based solely on numbers is helpful I find that it’s much more effective to put together a plan that actually incorporates how you think and feel about money and the world. Here are some of the short quizzes you can try out:
